Telugu Badminton Club holds Badminton Tournament
Telugu Badminton Club of Canterbury entered 5th year of its operation and to celebrate this they organised an open badminton tournament on 11th & 12th June 2021. This tournament featured 90 players from various ethnic communities including Europeans, Asians, and Kiwis.
The tournament was held in various categories, with singles and doubles taking place in 10 events. The format of the tournament was round robin followed by semi-final knock out, it was designed in such a way that all participants had a fair chance to play games with a mix of other players.
This tournament witnessed some of the best performances from men, women, boys, and girls. The doubles event was quite unique as it featured a combination of Men’s, Women’s, juniors, and mixed doubles. Based on performance, the best players were awarded as per the standard category.
Prominent Winners were, Men’s Singles John Morahan, Women’s singles Tegan Weston, Women’s doubles Carrington Wilson and Christina Robb, Mixed doubles Tegan Weston and Wasim Taj and Men’s doubles Ajesh Jose and Martin Thomas.
Tournament organiser Mr. Rajeswar Peddisetti thanked all the players who participated in the event. He said this tournament not only brought the best performance from a player, but the round robin has also helped the players as an assessment tool to determine what their skill level is. He said it was great to see participation from the wider community and was optimistic that the next event will feature more than 100 players.
