In a rocking start to the first-ever New Zealand Premier League (NZPL), Ramesh Lakmal of Kerala Warriors scored 119 runs in just 37 balls to propel his team to a seven-wicket win over Powerful Rangers, in the first round of matches held last weekend.

As reported earlier, NZPL is a T20 tournament based on the Indian Premier League (IPL) format, which is being conducted in association with the Kumeu Cricket Club, and is supported by Auckland Cricket. Eight teams are participating in it, with Pitch Panthers topping the league as of now.

Meanwhile, Lakmal who became the first centurion of this year’s edition, hit eight 4’s and 13 6’s, gaining a strike rate of 321.62. With his help, his team managed 201 in just under 15 overs while loosing only three wickets; in response to Rangers’ score of 199.
