Mum suffers after delivering her newborn due to hospital’s inattentiveness
Nikita Zala, 32, at present suffers from disability due to post-partum complications after delivering her baby on the 28th of May in Waitakere Hospital, Henderson. It is a case of negligence and inefficiency from hospital authorities where the victim has been primary diagnosed with forth degree perineal tear while secondary diagnosis resulted in Hypokalaemia. The new mother was later transferred to North Shore hospital for abdominal surgery in Auckland.
It is learnt from all the information provided that after Nikita’s delivery at Waitakere hospital she was immediately discharged from the hospital and not even attended by the doctor once she was given clearance by her midwife. While attending to her after few days at Zala’s home, the other midwife noticed certain symptoms that were not indicating a normal recovery.
Like any other women, Nikita was wanting to do whatever it takes to responsibly take care of her baby who is almost a month old, but sadly cannot as she reclines in her bed recovering from the surgery.
This surgery was performed in North Shore hospital seven days post childbirth at Waitakere hospital once it was discovered she had excessive bleeding after giving birth and had resulted in acute and long-term consequence.
In her conversation with The Indian News NZ, Nikita Zala confessed that when she and her husband, Vishal Zala were informed about the consequences, they broke down and cried together for the tornado that came uncalled in their life, “I was staying active and healthy before my childbirth, I wanted to take care of my baby once he was here with us, but now I can’t even move properly with stoma bag attached to my body, I am in pain.”
“I cannot even hold my son in my arms, I am scared that he might unknowingly move around and accidentally hit my fresh wounds.” cries out the mother who is suffering from consequences that she must endure with no fault of hers.
It is noted that the complete treatment of the injury will happen by performing yet another surgery after a year to fully amend the injuries. The battles for the couple do not end here as they are migrants and not permanent resident or citizen of the country.
The couple are on a work-visa that ends in middle of this year and to have their life on-going here in New Zealand, Vishal must earn a living and support his family. Unfortunately, due to the series of events his work has taken a back seat. Vishal is being the mom to the infant and needs to give his full attention to both his wife and their son.
“I just need my mother, I know I will be better once she is here with me,” says Nikita, who is pleading for some miracle to happen so that her mother can travel from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. She says before delivery she understood that due to border closer it will not be possible for any of her family member to come and help her, but this misfortune was not predicted then, neither did she know that the hospital’s carelessness would land her in such a condition.
We ask the people in authority that what was Nikita and Vishal’s fault in all of this? As migrants they are already under stress due to ever changing immigration policies, and now when they have their baby, the mother is in a grave situation because of hospitals negligence, she could have suffered from health problems that could be life-threatening. - TIN Bureau
