Let’s try to nip it in the bud
We are already halfway through the first month of new year as we say hello to our readers after a nice Christmas and New Year break. As mentioned in my previous write up, my apprehensions about the explosive and chaotic situation around the world and also in India seem to be coming true.
The year didn’t start on a good note with US President Trump, ordering to kill Iran’s armed forces supreme commander Qasem Soleimani and US forces accomplished the orders by an air strike. This operation was carried out in the middle of night when Baghdad’s international airport was hit by a volley of missiles on the convoy of Soleimani, thus killing the most important and strongest person of Iran’s armed forces. The retaliation and counter retaliation were inevitable and both sides claiming to kill each other’s forces and attacking armed establishments.
This is not going to stop here unless some timely intervention is done by world’s major powers and economies to stop it from escalating any further. The retaliation by Iran has already taken its tall by its missiles accidently hitting Ukrainian civil aviation plane and killing over 180 innocent people on board. Everyone in the world including Iran knows, what military prowess America has got and what destruction it may do to the world. Even if other superpowers like Russia and China jump in the fray to restrain America, the magnanimity of the colossal loss that will follow can only be imagined.
There will be many other repercussions also if this war escalates further, like oil prices jumping to a new high and more stringent sanctions from US on countries going against them. In an already prevalent global economic meltdown situation, this war or possible world war will add to the miseries of millions of people across the globe. The situation back home in India is also not very rosy and the ongoing opposition of CAA, which was recently passed by the parliament, is continuing. This protest is now taking an ugly turn and is no more a political opposition against the ruling party. This protest has been overtaken by some hardcore fundamentalist and other anti-national forces destroying properties worth millions of dollars and shouting ant India and anti-constitutional slogans.
This opposition movement is backed mainly by leftists and Congress party, who are using a couple of universities and its student as their tools. PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have clarified it several times on many platforms that no citizen of India is going to be affected from CAA. This Act is about providing citizenship to people from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan who are minorities there and fled to India due to religious persecution on them.
This Act will be applicable to the people who moved to India till 2014. So, there is no reason to create any drama, especially by students on this issue because it does not affect them, their families or any Indian citizen in any way. I think Its high time now for the government to take some real tough measures to stop this nuisance Sand put a break on the anti-social elements who are happy creating this chaotic situation by rumour mongering and foul mouthing. The safety of its citizens, integrity of the nation and social harmony should be paramount to a nation and any resentment should be sorted amicably, peacefully and constitutionally.
