Let’s Deal With It – Eliminating Discrimination: Join us for the change!

Following the horrific mosque shooting in Christchurch on 15th March, Shakti Community Council decided that it was time to raise concerns around all forms of discrimination. In the immediate aftermath of the attack, Shakti supported 13 families alongside other government and non-government departments. As an organization that operates in Australia and New Zealand working with migrants and former refugee communities, Shakti Community Council Inc. and all its member organizations understood the sense of urgency for safety and ongoing dialogue.

It was this understanding of safety, ongoing dialogue and being of the affected communities that led to Shakti hosting the ‘Trans-Tasman conference on Racial Equity’ in June 2019. Following on from the conference the team at Shakti New Zealand are launching their 2020 campaign, "LETS DEAL WITH IT - ELIMINATING DISCRIMINATION: JOIN US FOR THE CHANGE". The purpose of this campaign is to raise public awareness of the varying forms of discrimination and bring light to our change makers already tackling their own niche area of discrimination.

On the 13th of March 2020, Shakti Community Council will officially launch the campaign in Parliament, alongside local events being hosted in Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Sydney, and Melbourne. The campaign is centered around our Ambassadors, who will share a form of discrimination they are already working on changing, and share some strategies on how you can join them and become a change-maker.

We are inviting you to:

1. RSVP for the campaign event closest to you.

2. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter @letsdealwithitnz

3. Donate to this advocacy work via our Give A Little Page: https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/lets-deal-with-it

4. Support the campaign by covering an issue that an Ambassador has raised.
