High-Tea by ‘Sakhi’ women’s group
Sakhi’ is a social wing of Bharatiya Mandir for the women and by the women. As many of you may be aware that Bharatiya Mandir, the oldest and first purpose-built temple in New Zealand runs many activities for different age groups including children, youngsters, elderly people, and women. The Sakhi group is a safe place, where women can feel free to connect with other like-minded individuals, share their problems if any and get help from the professionals in the group.
Sakhi group was created in year 2017 by a group of some very dedicated and enterprising volunteers that included Jyoti Parashar, Aditee Naik, Lavanya Komal, Smriti Saini, and Nadya Poonawala. The aim and the purpose was for women to feel safe to unwind and to connect with other women in the group. Sakhi has since organised many events for women in the past like retro Bollywood lunch, pre valentine get together and Christmas party to name a few.
The High-Tea event organized on Sunday 3rd July at the Balmoral Community Centre in Sandringham, was an evening full of fun, games, dancing, and spot prizes etc. This was second High-Tea event organised by Sakhi group which was put together with able support from some amazing volunteers like Priya Ramrakhiani, Krina Vasa, Sonia Srivastava, Sunita Itla, Nirzari Jani and Neelu Ghai. The event ended around 7:30 pm and over 65 attendees savouring some choicest of snacks, savouries, puffs and pastries, choice of juice and drinks and of course the delightful Indian tea. Many women in the group have demanded the organising team to host such social events more often. -TIN Bureau
