According to the report released by the Representation Commission this week, Flat Bush, which has a major proportion of Kiwi-Indian population, may be a new electorate.

Additionally, the Commission has suggested changes to 35 of the current 71 electorates, with biggest moves in Auckland, Christchurch, Otago, and Southland. These proposed changes to the boundaries and names will be for the next two elections.

As regards to Flat Bush, the proposed new electorate will have an overall population of 66,306 and draws in people from the current electorates of Manurewa, Papakura and Hunua. Importantly, before the changes are finalised in April next year, public consultations and hearings will take place in the coming months.
