‘Faag Mahotsav’, a huge success!

The first of its kind attempt to celebrate the festival of Holi, a joint effort of over fifty different Indian organisations, ‘Faag Mahotsav’ was celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and fun. ‘Faag’ is a short form of Hindi month of ‘Falgun’ which marks the arrival of spring in India. The festival of Holi falls on the full moon night of Falgun and people celebrate it by singing, dancing, and applying colours to each other. The ‘Faag Mahotsav’ was celebrated at Mahatma Gandhi centre at Eden Terrace on Monday, 5th April.

Many dignitaries including political leaders, community leaders and representatives from NZ Police took part in the event. The four hour long event was full of several cultural performances from participants from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar. -TIN Bureau
